Saturn

Image details: August 31 2023. 12.02 to 13.35 UT. I imaged Saturn in late 2023 when it was very high in the sky in Brisbane. The seeing was good but not great. I was pleased to see, in the final recordings, that I had captured the ring spokes in the B ring. Look at the B ring on the left. The movie will play forwards-reverse several times (and I increased the contrast). Do you see the small dark feature in the B ring? That is a ring spoke!

Image details: September 25 2023. 12.33 to 12.48 UT. 31-cm Newtonian. Here is another, shorter recording which also shows ring spokes. Look in the B ring on the left of the planet. Also visible is the moon Tethys transiting (its shadow is visible moving off the disk of Saturn), Dione passing above the planet and the much fainter Enceladus in the top right (you’ll need a good monitor).
